A new blog, with a first post, would probably begin with a new direction. One that explains why I left Medium, or any of my other endeavors, and how this will be so different.
But lately, I’ve been thinking about the cyclical nature of my life. I’m spending less time on improvement and more time on remembering who I am. I’ve crossed paths with plenty of self-help books and stepped right over them to pick up a journal. I’ve stopped looking outward to others for all the answers and started learning to trust myself.
And for this reason, we go in a familiar direction. I hope this combination of my blogging, my store, my zines, my poems, and everything else I choose to share finds a happy community here.
I am done recreating Kristina for now, and am just remembering her in her very happiest state. How easily we forget mud pies and climbing trees. To the old me, that was all in a day’s work. Where the biggest decision I had to make was if today was a Madonna wardrobe or a Cyndi Lauper one.
Returning to that wild child inside me has helped put things into perspective. In a world full of AI, we are finally starting to appreciate the not-perfectness in everything we do. Not who I could become if I worked a little harder, changed a little more, or finally got everything right. But who I’ve always been, underneath all those expectations.
And now, as a mother, I get to pass down the things that make me happy to my own child. Through traditions and celebrations, yes, but perhaps more importantly, through everyday life.Through making things. Playing. Being curious. Getting messy. Finding joy in ordinary afternoons.
I don’t want to spend the rest of my life becoming someone else. I want to remember what it felt like to be myself. Thank you for joining me for my unbecoming.
